Abstract
Background/Aim : There has been few data for the eradication rate of triple therapy (proton pump inhibitor, amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to H. pylori in Jeju. We performed this study to determine the eradication rate of PPI-based triple therapy and the factors influencing the eradication rate in Jeju island.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical record of those whom treated with PPI-based triple therapy for H. pylori infection and had follow-up study for the eradication from January 2005 to August 2007.

Results: Among total 523 patients, 169 patients were excluded due to follow-up loss. Of the remained 354 patients (the mean age: 57¡¾15), male and female were 228 and 126, respectively. The total eradication rate was 68.6% (243/354). There were no significant differences of H. pylori eradication rate among the age group, sex, residence area, and the activity of peptic ulcers. However, the eradication rates were higher in the duodenal ulcer group than gastric ulcer group (77.4% vs. 64.9%) (p=0.021), and 2 weeks treatment group than 1 week treatment group (86.2% vs. 64.6%) (p=0.001).

Conclusions: The eradication rate of PPI based triple therapy was 68.6% in Jeju island, and 2 weeks treatment group showed significant higher eradication rate compared to 1 week treatment group.
